Chenzhou boasts its location advantages as the city is situated at the intersection of the Nanling Mountains and the Luoxiao Mountains and the diversion area of the Yangtze River System and the Pearl River System.

In the past decade, Chenzhou has seen tremendous changes in transportation.

A highway network accessing all counties (cities, districts) in the city within half an hour has been built, with a total highway mileage of 18,000 kilometers.

The total mileages of national and provincial highways in Chenzhou are 826 kilometers and 1,782 kilometers respectively. All counties (cities and districts) are connected with downtown Chenzhou and neighboring counties (cities and districts) by at least one secondary road.

In rural areas, there are 14,902 kilometers of roads. Cement roads or asphalt roads are paved in natural villages with more than 25 households or 100 villagers. All townships and villages where conditions permit have access to bus service.

95 bus routes run 1,088 kilometers in Chenzhou, linking 788 bus stations, where there is a public transport stop every 500 meters. There are 180 wharves in Chenzhou and 354 ships are operated.

Beihu Airport has opened 7 flight routes to 12 domestic cities to fully meet people's transportation demand.

The average elevation of Guidong County is 881 meters, which is the highest in Hunan Province. There are 471 mountains above 1,500 meters in altitude, and the Bamian Mountain is one of them.

Senior villager Huang Cunren from Shatian Town, Guidong County was excited about changes over the decade. “It used to take more than five hours to travel from Guidong County to Chenzhou. Thanks to the opening of Pingjiang-Rucheng Expressway at the end of 2013, it only takes about two hours now,” said the villager.

Moreover, Guidong County has got rid of poverty by virtue of national and provincial highways like Pingjiang-Rucheng Expressway.

Based on the mode of “transportation+ ecology+ tourism”, Guidong has become the preferred place for many people to spend their summer vacations and get relaxed. According to statistics, the county has developed more than 600 homestay inns with over 10,000 beds, by which villagers are able to gain more income.

Apart from road construction, Chenzhou has also enhanced its work in safety supervision as well as cracking down on vehicle overload and water pollution resulted from water transport.

Nowadays, it is pleasant to drive in Chenzhou where there are flat roads, smooth transportation and roadside flowers.
